A Year in the Life…

of an Honors Modern Fiction Student!

Throughout this school year, I have been writing a blog (mostly) about my Honors Modern Fiction Class at Northern Highlands Regional High School. My first blog post was called “Six Word Memoir” where I wrote a memoir/poem in 6 words. Here is mine.

Six-World Memoir
two coasts, six houses, thousand stories

We made these “memoirs” on the first day of school and it seems like we made them only yesterday.  These memoirs were posted to Six Word Memoir‘s website for a competition, I didn’t win 😦 its ok.

The rest of the blog posts became more serious as I had to compare Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to a short story that we read. This blog post was called Mother Mayhem. This was the first blog post I made where the letters in the title were also the same. Additionally, I chose to alternate my Featured Image from color to black and white which is a theme that I kept with (unlike my clever titles which I only kept up for 10/21 blog posts) throughout my year.

In this class specifically, we learned about multiple tenets of Modernism and postmodernism, along with some psychology. What was interesting about this year was that most of my classes overlapped which helped me understand my coursework more  in this class and in additional classes.

My favorite part of this year was diving into the psychology part because it was really interesting. I also used it when writing my notes for this year, especially with Slaughterhouse-5.

I am not sure if I plan to continue my blog or not. But if I do, you can expect updates here.

Here are my 3 favorite posts from this year, I hope you check them out:

It’s been real.

Love, Sofie
