The Academy Awards ®, or the Oscars®, as most people know them to recognize the best movies of the 2018 movie season. But do they really because I feel like some of the movies that won Oscars came out this year… or its only movies from the end of the year- like movies from August-December, never the early months. PSA: if you want to create a movie and maybe win an Oscar, release it in the fall and winter months.
Anyways, the Oscars recently happened this past Sunday (February 24, 2019), and I’m here to give you my opinion on the Oscars most importantly and really the only reason that people watch the Oscars; Best Picture.
**SPOILERS AHEAD****
The Awards
First of all, I dislike that there is an “academy” who chooses who put out the best movie and the people don’t get a say in the matter at all, because whoever wins the best picture NO ONE HAS EVER HEARD OF THE MOVIE. I mean that it right, not that the academy has traditionally for 2015 and past only have had very little female representation and minority representation, but that can’t be it right… OK, next topic.
Relating to 1984: The citizens of 1984 are blindly following big brother, just like we are, the watchers of the Oscars, following the academy’s decsisons

Winner: Green Book
Personally, I did not think Green Book was going to win, I thought it was going to be Bohemian Rhapsody or A Star is Born, but then again I am a sucker for sad movies like those. But even so, I never heard of Green Book and neither did any of my friends or my parents. Like my parents did even know about it, and it won Best Picture? I feel like this happens every year, a movie that no one has ever seen wins Best Picture, like The Shape of Water, it got all of it’s “hype” after it won the nomination. Additionally, Spike Lee, the director of BlacKkKlansman, spoke out about how he thinks other movies were robbed of the title for Best Picture because Green Book did not emphasize the issue it was supposed to address. But then again he could just be saying it because his movie didn’t win. However, after doing some research it was actually a controversial topic that many adults argued about, so I guess it was popular.

COMMENT DOWN BELOW WHICH MOVIE YOU THINK SHOULD HAVE WON BEST PICTURE!!
PS: I watch the Oscars every single year and every single year I regret it because it is a waste of time and the movies and actors I want to win never win, but its like a guilty pleasure watching these award shows. AND the speeches arent even good, but I feel like if I dont watch them I will have severe FOMO.

Good idea to post about, I was excited to read it because I didn’t watch the Oscars so I’m kind of out of the loop. To be honest, I only watched part of A Star Is Born and Black Panther, and that’s it from that list! Because I’m a HUGE nerd for superhero movies, I’d go with Black Panther. Before reading this, I hadn’t really thought much about who chooses what the best movies are, which in a way influences whose going to watch them in the future. I see the relation to 1984 and population manipulation (at least this isn’t a serious event!!). It’s a good thing the presidency doesn’t include Oscars!! 🙂
